Week 1: Project Attributes Review the project attributes in this week's lesson and discuss two of them in detail. You are to submit two quality posts over 2 different days, with the first post on or before Wednesday for each graded discussion topic. Collapse Subdiscussion Manage Discussion Entry First attribute is a project must've an established objective meaning you have to clearly outline the end goal why are we doing this? what are we trying to accomplish and how down get there. Second attribute of a project is that has a defined life span meaning you have a firm cut off date and periodical check in dates the are defined and acknowledged by everyone on the team. This keeps the project on track and if for some reason you're behind it can be acknowledged far in advance to do the things necessary to meet original deadline. Manage Discussion Entry I think you did a great post. I especially liked how at the end you talk about being able to see if the project is off trach and being able to adjust in order to finish on time. You gave a good description for what an objective is and why it is important to have a life span to your project. Great job. Manage Discussion Entry Clarity is key in creating an effective project objective. As in anything written well, the author must be clear about what they’re trying to say. Project objectives are way to communicate to your team, those individuals who will be executing the project and creating the deliverables that better meet the quality expectations of your stakeholders. Reply Reply to Comment Manage Discussion Entry I like that there's so many different methods of marking objectives. My favorite is probably the waterfall way because I personally like to do everything one step at a time. I think it's a fantastic way to keep track of checkpoints and progress along the way to your final objective. Very useful! Manage Discussion Entry Good Afternoon, I agree with you. You need to know why you are doing a project. I also agree that you need to have a dead line, if you don't have the dead line date then you won't be able to hold be accountable if they miss the date. I believe that you need to also check in with the people working on the project. This is important because if they run into issues they can keep everyone up to date. Manage Discussion Entry A project has a defined life span with a beginning, middle, and an end. This part of the project is extremely important. The project must have a main objective that needs to be achieved in a timely fashion. The project will usually have a deadline, and there should be progression from start to finish. The second project attribute involves work that is unique. The project should be a specific set of operations that will accomplish the same goals. Some people prefer to keep their projects simple and very easy to understand. Some of the other workers like to have a more complex project with several resources involved. The main goal of the project is to stay on track and focus on completing the task. I like how you bring up progression on a project and that it is important to have an objective. I also like how you bring up that not projects have to be complicated or overly simple, that the goal is to have a unique finished project that stays on track and completed on time. Great job. Manage Discussion Entry Good evening Sean, I agree the project should have a deadline, and there should be progression from start to finish. It needs to be kept on track. It is easy for projects to get put on the “back burner”. We all get busy with work and sidetracked by what appears to be more pressing matters. There should be time regularly set aside for the team to meet and ensure progress. You need to try to stay in front of things that may delay completion. The team needs to communicate and communicate often. R/S, Manage Discussion Entry I agree that a project must have an objective that needs to be done in a timely fashion and it must be unique to each person, those make great attributes to a project. With all of our busy lives, if there is no life span to a project, then the project would probably not get done, because people would put it on the back burner. Thank you for sharing. Reply Reply to Comment Manage Discussion Entry Good Afternoon, I agree that there needs to be a deadline when it comes to projects. If you don't have a deadline for a project, it will never get done. You also need to check in from time to time to make sure that you are hitting your mark. I have worked on projects that people didn't check in on, and there was issues, and they didn't get handled in a timely manner so the project wasn't completed the deadline date. Manage Discussion Entry Hello Class and Professor, Every project must Have assigned resources, This means the project should have both assigned individual and budget. For every project to be accomplished you need these two( Budget and Individuals ) to do so, A project has to have a defined life span indication the beginning, middle, and end. A time frame has to be defined for every work in the project to be performed. Clients and customers will be expecting the work done and turn over to them by the given schedule. Manage Discussion Entry You provided good information about the two project attributes you chose to discuss this week. I think the relationship between a project's timeline and the resources assigned to it, is very interesting. It make sense that the more time is spent on a project, the more resources it will require (relative to a similar project). What factors would you consider in a scenario in which a project is behind schedule and over budget? What are the things that would influence your decision about what to do as the project reached its scheduled completion date? Would you spend extra money on the project, or push the completion date out further? Or would terminating the project be the best choice? Thanks for the great post! Manage Discussion Entry I like your post this week. You explained the life span in a simple way and it is easy to understand. Life span is one important attribute to have during a project. This is the time that the project must be delivered on and there should not be a delay. If customers are given this life span it is expected at this time no later and no exceptions. Manage Discussion Entry Good and concise explanation. The timeline is an important difference between a project and operations, operations being daily and ongoing without a determined end. COVID-19 has created projects throughout the workforce. There are projects to get barriers between workers. There are projects taking place in factories that have switched from making their usual products to making masks or ventilators. These are short-term projects but may be large and include a lot of resources in manpower and cash. Manage Discussion Entry When assigning a resource to a task using ‘Fixed Units’, the scheduling engine will look at the duration of the task and calculate the ‘Work’ using 100% units as a default, this is a result we are likely to want. We now understand how these planning variables work so we can start assigning resources to tasks. Reply Manage Discussion Entry Hey Class and Professor, A project has a beginning, middle, and end, in which to deliver the desired out come. Projects may have specific time frames to be completed due to any number of reasons. A project for building a new office could be required to be done before winter because the area is remote and hard to get supplies in the winter. Once the project is complete it is transferred over to its end user whether it is an internal or external customer. A project has designated resources in order to complete the project which include budget and personnel. If the project doesn't have a budget or assigned personnel it may not be delivered on time and could be over budget if the project manager doesn't know what the assigned budget is. Manage Discussion Entry This is very true my company i work for we just moved to a new building last month and they have been planning this since last year but it got pushed back due to winter and they did not plan this project very well. Manage Discussion Entry In addition cost is the budget approved for the project including all necessary expenses needed to deliver the project. Within organizations, project managers have to balance between not running out of money and not under spending because many projects receive funds or grants that have contract clauses with a use it or lost it approach to project funds. Quality is a combination of the standards and criteria to which the project's products must be delivered for them to perform effectively. The product must perform to provide the functionality expected, solve the identified problem and deliver the benefit and value expected. (Watt,2012) Manage Discussion Entry A project involves work that is unique. A new project needs to have a concept of something that has never been done before. Certain projects, such as new pavement of a road, may be based off of familiar processes as before, but that project team has to prepare the project to something new or nothing like before because using that some process as before will only lead back to the destruction of the road. A new approach to the project will make it that more efficient. Manage Discussion Entry Lawrence, this is a good point. Uniqueness is very important with projects.. Thinking outside of the box to improve what has already been created to increase the effectiveness is very important. Manage Discussion Entry Hey Lawrence, you are correct a project isn't a project unless it is unique from my point of view. Manage Discussion Entry A project need a well-defined objective. A project life span is beginning, middle, and end. You project work needs to be reported in a specific time period. After all of this and the project comes to the end, the finish project must be turned over to the person the will act on it. This means the objective of a project is usually defined in terms of scope, schedule, and cost. An organization doing a project need to set up a good objective. this objective will be help that organization to identify their needs and their aim before begin their project. All projects needs to meet cost, performance requirements, and meet a specific time period. A project is carried out through a series of interdependent tasks. A project always relate with various tasks. for that reason, a project need to be accomplished in a certain sequence in order to achieve the project objective. https://itsaboutmymot.wordpress.com/2011/01/23/project-attributes/ (Links to an external site.) Great post, I really liked the point you made about the objective being defined in the scope, schedule and cost. I think if the project isn't spelled out and defined the customer may not receive what they are expecting. Without a clear definition some key decisions may be delayed or made incorrectly which can cause budget issues and the schedule of the project may not be met. If a project does not meet the c
