I kinda knew that sitting for a long period of time can inflict your your back with aching. I sometimes wonder the people that sit in an office all day feel at the end of the day. But what I found interesting was that it can lead to heart disease when I read about that I was shocked. You gave great points and facts. One thing i do notice is that i will have hip or back pain if i sit to long. I never knew sitting was the cause. I just thought i was overweight and getting old. After reading your presentation i will move more and not sit around as much as i do. I figure in order to stay healthy you have to move around. I'm always moving at work so i never thought sitting was bad for me. In my current job I am sitting down most of the day at my desk. I agree that the sitting position could definitely contribute to decreased oxygen flow in the body. Additional I would suspect that a person's posture while sitting could also exaggerate this effect as they may be constricting their lungs even more, or cutting off blood flow to their lower body. I have some constructive suggestions if you don't mind. I noticed that you stuttered in a few area's of the video. I have that same problem, it's why I try to avoid narrated anything. If I absolutely had too I would make script cards, flash cards with exciting highlights bulleted, so that I knew what and how I was going to talk about something. I would also rehearse a few times before I went through with recording myself. I’m asthmatic and sometimes when I sit a certain way for too long I turn to have shortness of breath and shortness of breath or shallow breathing means less oxygen in the lung. Thank you so much, I honestly made a video because I watched yours. I'm going to sound like a dummy but I didn't know what you did was possible, so I gotta say thank you! I hadn't ever seen one of those boogie boards until about 3 months ago. There are 3 different offices, about 10 people each, with stand up desks and boogie boards. I frankly thought they were crazy and just trying to make a statement like :"Look how crossfit I am" or something like that, but after watching that TED talk I'm going to be seeing if I can get one of those standup desks and the boogie board. I attached an example of what everyone is standing on in my office, just to give you an idea. I'd be super interested to see what other companies have done to innovate in a world where sitting is the norm. One example I can think of is the company across from mine in the building I work at. Their receptionist has one of those inflatable exercise balls to sit on, and the chairs in the lobby are bean bag chairs. You are spot on with what you are talking about. There are things such as stationary bike pedals as well as mini ellipticals that fit under the desk. There are also treadmills that are designed for under desks as well. Some of the information you gave me I did know, but a lot I did not. I have a rep at work that she stands all day long. It does not matter if it is an 8 hour shift or a 10 hour shift. She will even stand while wearing high heel shoes. There is time I can see her legs are getting tired that she will start doing squats. I will have to tell her about the boggie board.
