There are many two-sided views on this topic. Although many may argue that it is outdated, there are some people that still believe it is a good practice to have in our judicial system still. One of the main moral reasons people are still for the death penalty, is because they believe we need to be tough on crime. This side views that if you commit an extreme crime like murder, or rape then you would deserve to be punished hard. However, on the other hand, there is a side of people that believe no matter what the crime is that that person committed, no one deserves to be killed because it is inhuman and can be seen as murder to some. Overall, we can see how this topic has many sides to it. We can now examine a dilemma that a nurse might be faced with when dealing with the death penalty and what other ethical rules would view this situation. Dilemma A nurse was working in the prison system in a state that still legalized capital punishment. She has never actually witnessed any prisoners become executed on the death row during the time she has been working there. There are many people on death row, however, it can take a whole lifetime for them to actually be executed. Therefore, the nurse was not worried about ever being asked to take place in a capital punishment. Until one day she was. She was asked to help in the process for a man that has been on death row for 20 years. Her role would be to insert the IV’s into the man’s arm so the doctor could then inject the lethal medicine.
