Argumentative Essay on Assisted Reproduction Technologies Student Name Chamberlain College of nursing Date Argumentative Essay on Assisted Reproduction Technologies Is artificial child-bearing an effective method of achieving pregnancy? Bearing a child is always an objective good for couples experiencing difficulties in conceiving. Many couples usually resort to natural family planning or “assisted reproductive technology (ART).” “In-vitro fertilization (IVF),” where fertilization occurs in a lab is the 1st of several such approaches. The 2nd technique is “intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI),” where an egg and sperm fuse in a lab. The efficacy of these techniques is usually an essential consideration for couples seeking to have babies. “The European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE)” statistics show that ART is highly effective. Even though ART may present several social and medical benefits, they also present critical ethical and moral issues (Thoma et al., 2021). Moral issues arise because ART involves the manipulation of fertilization away from the natural environment. Ethical issues from the medical aspects of the methods used in ART. The moral issues raise important questions on whether assisted reproductive technology is worth the effort. However, use of ART evokes negative feedback from a moral standpoint. ART is an unnatural means of reproduction, and this raises concerns among the religious circle, who oppose the noncoital means of reproduction. Inequitable access to assisted reproductive technology may be a hindering factor to enjoying fruits of ART. Other moral issues hampering ART use include complications of procedure and quality assurance, the need for regulation, the possibility and fate of extra embryos, and the ethical impacts of surrogacy. As such, this research paper focuses on assisted reproductive technology, diving deeper into the topic, seeking to understand how ART could be both a good and not-so-good idea. ART could refer as “the last stop” for any couple who is battling infertility. ART is also the last option for couples who cannot undergo traditional pregnancy and conception. Couples always use ART when other infertility treatments are not successful. Infertility conditions such as reduced ovarian reserves, several male infertilities, and blocked fallopian tubes require an individual to undergo an ART procedure to have a child. This shows that ART was invented to give couples having problems getting their own children an opportunity to do so. ART increases the couples’ chances of getting a healthy baby. ART involves powerful procedures such as genetic screening that ensure a couple gives birth to a hale and hearty kid. Through “preimplantation genetic testing,” ART ensures that fetuses subjected to in vitro fertilization do not have any known genetic markers. These are always associated with life-threatening conditions such as cystic fibrosis, and Down syndrome. Preimplantation genetic testing shows how advancements in the reproduction sector have solved problems related to infertility. Couples with chronic conditions such as cancer can give their eggs or sperm to get a baby without having to go through the process of natural birth. Assisted reproductive system offers “a way
