The purpose of this device is to provide a safe and accurate remote monitoring option for cardiac patients. The device allows more interaction, for the patient, with their healthcare, giving their physician regular updates in real time and improves the quality of life for the patient. History Considering the history of the pacemaker, moving toward the Smartphone-Connected Pacemaker Device is another step toward the improvement in cardiac-managed care. ‘Indeed one of the first applications of the newly invented device was in the nascent field of medical electronics, and particularly in pacemakers’ (Aquilina, 2006). The pacemaker was invented by John Hopps who was a biomedical engineer out of Canada. This led to the first successful pacemaker implant back in the year 1958. Moving forward in history to the 2000s, it became possible for pacemakers to connect to the internet, through a Smartphone-Connected Pacemaker Device app, uploading the patient’s cardiac data into the app, allowing the patient and their physician to have access in real-time of their cardiac health status. Thesis The decision for cardiac patients to receive access to the Smartphone-Connected Pacemaker Device should be solely up to the patient, and all cardiac patients, with no bias towards their age, gender, race, religion, disability, or national origi
