Course Project: Part 2 – Describing Communication Patterns Student Name Chamberlain College of Nursing COMM 277 Dr. Sears Date Part 1: Identifying Patterns Strategic Step 1 My first strategic step is to integrate nonverbal communication. As Mclean (2018) suggests that nonverbal communication is a process that sends messages without using actual words. This includes facial expressions, body language, tone of voice, etc. Sometimes the messages that we send are often misinterpreted and people often get the wrong message. Sometimes my tone of voice doesn’t match in how I feel and often my parents perceive the wrong message from me. Nonverbal communication challenges our perception and impacts our relationships. Also, with verbal communication there’s room for error, meaning clarifying or correcting communication. However, that’s not how it works for nonverbal communication, which is why it’s important for me to learn nonverbal elements that will deliver my communication correctly to others. Strategic Step 2 My second strategic step is to gain skills for starting relationships. One of the skills that Mclean suggest in the textbook is to provide information about yourself.
